History of Reusable Shopping Bags
Burlap Bag:
-The first ever reusable bag created was called a Burlap Bag. The burlap bag was woven with fabric that was made from the skin of a jute plant or sisal fibres.
-The burlap bag was first used by the people in India and was created in 1793.
Paper Bag:
-The paper bag was created in 1852 by Frances Wolle.
-In 1870, Margret Knight invented a device to cut, fold, and paste paper bag bottoms.
Paper Bag with Handles:
-Paper bag with handles were invented in 1912 by Walter Deubener.
-Deubener and his wife owned a grocery shop and after he noticed his customers having a difficult time from carrying the groceries by hand, he decided to experiment with ways to get around the problem. -After a few months of experimentation, he created the first shopping bag by starting with an ordinary paper sack, then reinforcing the bottom with string and running the string through holes in the side of the bag and over the top to create handles.
Plastic Bag:
-Plastic bag was created in 1966 by a Swedish engineer, Sten Gustaf Thulin.
-In the early 1960s, Thulin developed a method of forming a simple one-piece bag by folding, welding and die-cutting a flat tube of plastic for the packaging company Celloplast of Norrkoping, Sweden.
-The patent by Thulin produced a simple, strong bag with a high load carrying capacity and was patented world wide in 1965.

-The idea was created when people realized plastic bags were polluting the environment .
-Reusable Bags emerged in the early 1990's.
-These bags were made in a variety of forms and being made out of materials varying from cotton to nylon.
-By the mid 1990's the bags were given a nickname of PP shopping bags since they contain the material polypropylene .
